How Mandi Rates Work in India
A mandi (APMC yard) is India's regulated agricultural marketplace where farmers auction their produce. India has 7,500+ mandis. Final prices are recorded and submitted to AGMARKNET — the national database maintained by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Three Prices Explained
Every mandi record shows three prices: Minimum (lowest bid accepted), Maximum (highest bid), and Modal price — the price at which the largest volume traded. Always use Modal price for planning your sale.
Why Prices Vary Between Mandis
Local supply-demand, transportation costs, proximity to cold storage, and seasonal crop calendars all drive price variations. The same tomato can fetch ₹800/q in one mandi and ₹2,400/q 200km away.
eNAM — Pan-India Electronic Market
The National Agriculture Market (eNAM) lets buyers from any state bid electronically for farm produce. Over 1,380 mandis across 23 states are now eNAM-integrated. WiseSeva pulls both AGMARKNET and eNAM data.
